I have often had individuals ask me how I ended up in Youth Ministry. When I tell the complete story, many of them are amazed and I often hear people tell me I should journal what happened in my life to lead me into youth ministry. So for the next few days I wanted to journal and share about my Call to Youth MInistry.
I hope this will be both an inspiration and encouragement to you. If nothing else, know that sharing it with you is an encouragement to me. It is always a great thing to be reminded of how faithful God is in my life!!!!
My Call to Youth Ministry - Part 1
Calling is an interesting thing. It does not happen in any one particular way and everyone has their own miraculous story of God’s call on their life. It can also be hard to pin-point exactly what a call from God “looks” like. I struggle when individuals talk about being “called to ministry” applying only to those whose careers are in the church/parachurch. I think every believer is called to ministry regardless of what career they may have. Believers are all called to be “fishers of men,” sharing the gospel of Christ with everyone. This does not take place only within the walls of the church. It can be a dangerous sentiment to communicate that only some believers are “called” to ministry. This could prevent some believers from responding to the Great Commission of Christ feeling as though it is meant to be left to those who are in full-time ministry as a career. There are some of us, though, that have the great blessing of being called into full-time ministry for their career. This is definitely a separate and distinct calling, but not any more significant or special than the ministry that can occur in any other vocation.
When I entered Seminary, I had heard God’s calling on my life to youth ministry. It was an undeniable call. As hard and far as I tried running from God’s calling on my life, he continued to make his call unquestionably clear. He worked in my life in such a way that I could not ignore His call to youth ministry. There is no other way of saying how God worked other than that He performed modern-day miracles to clarify the calling on my life.
