One of my areas of strength and knowledge, because I have actually been using the internet since 1985 (before most people even knew you could get "online") is the "internet". It goes beyond just having my own blog, and my own website. It goes beyond email, myspace, and IM. I have used programs on the internet that many people have never heard about or know how to use (such as IRC - the original internet "chat" program). I have spent a lot of time online. I have spent a lot of time using the internet to communicate with others. I have done a lot of research on the internet. I believe there are many, many, many benefits and strengths to the internet, but there are also many dangers.
One thing I started doing about 4 years ago was teaching seminars (to whoever invited me to speak) on Internet awareness and safety. Because I have such a liking for the internet I have been excited to share my knowledge and help others become aware of this information. It started with me doing seminars for parents and youth workers called "keeping your kids safe online." I have helped parents install protection software and doing personal home consulting on internet safety stuff.
It has been my desire to do more of this type of speaking - especially on this topic. I even developed a 29-page manual containing a lot of my information in a form easy for parents to read and very informative.
Well, this year my name was passed on to one of the National Charity League organizers, and I was contacted and asked to come speak first to a group of 8th grade girls about internet awareness and safety. They were so excited about the job I did there that I was asked to come speak to a group of 70 mothers for the NCL about this topic. After that I have had 3 more individuals ask me to come to specific chapters of the NCL to speak on this topic to their group. I love doing this type of thing - I love speaking, I love teaching, I love the internet, and I love sharing with others. So, this has been a blast for me!!!
